1. Introduction:
Department of Anatomy is one of the first departments established in 2012
committed to advancing the understanding of human anatomy. In the last decade,
the department has grown in various aspects and has played a pivotal role in
medical education, research and patient services.
Department of Anatomy is involved in teaching and training of undergraduate
MBBS, nursing (B.Sc. (Hons.), M.Sc.,) and paramedical students, postgraduate
students (MD Anatomy), and PhD research scholars. The department has a fully
equipped dissection hall with a museum, embalming and cold storage facilities
which enhances to provide quality gross anatomy and neuroanatomy teaching and
research experience. The Histology and Immunohistochemistry laboratory of the
department provides a platform to understand the microanatomy of various
structures and also facilitates the postgraduates (MD Anatomy) & PhD research
scholars to conduct quality research works.
The recently established Cytogenetic lab is furnished with a state-of-art
facility to provide genetic service to the patients attending various OPDs of AIIMS,
Bhubaneswar. We also offer special OPD services to patients through genetic
counselling in association with different clinical departments such as Neonatology,
Obstetrics and gynaecology, Paediatric surgery and Psychiatry. The Department
has various funded research projects from Indian Council of Medical Research
(ICMR), Department of Biotechnology (DBT) – GoI, and Institutional intramural
grants.
The department provides funeral embalming services for those who need to
transport body, and constantly creates awareness regarding body donation
programs by conducting various activities encouraging the general public to pledge
to for voluntary body donation.
