DEPERTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY
HIGHLIGHTS The Department of Biochemistry, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, is actively involved in teaching, patient care, research and other Institutional activities. The Department has received appreciation for quality teaching and patient care for providing quality laboratory diagnostic services, 24×7 to the patients.
In addition to the regular academic programs, the faculty are involved in guiding undergraduate students with ICMR-STS projects. The department has accepted project students from other government institutes from Odisha. Several intramural, extramural and collaborative research projects are being conducted in the Department and the research output are regularly being published in National and International Indexed Journals. Faculty of the Department significantly contribute as members of different committees like Institute Research Cell, Institute Ethics Committee, Scientific Advisory Committee, Medical Education Unit, Mentor Mentee committee, committee for Newsletter printing, Women’s cell, etc. towards the growth and progress of this Institute.
EDUCATION TEACHING PROGRAMMES: The department of Biochemistry is involved in teaching programs for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Undergraduate students include those in the MBBS, BSc nursing and Paramedical students on various allied health courses (like, BSc MLT, BSc OT & AT, BSc MTIT). Postgraduates are also trained with MD course in Biochemistry.
Undergraduate Programmes: For MBBS students, in addition to didactic teaching, horizontal integration are also conducted for basic sciences and clinical medicine, along with small group discussions and case-based discussions to enable students to make clinical correlations with what they learn in biochemistry.
Postgraduate Programmes: The postgraduate training course in the department is the MD in Biochemistry (2 candidates per year). Currently, there are 7 MD candidates, with a scheduled 36 months course program, which encompasses the following broad areas:
